Bananasaur’s Breakfast Banana Split

Bananas are a great snack, and lots of kids love them. But there are so many ways to have banana other than peeling one and eating it. Why not try this quick and easy breakfast banana split, perfect for fussy eaters, with no added sugars!

Dessert for breakfast seems almost silly! But swapping out the sugar and fat usually seen in banana splits for low-fat yogurt and fruit means you can make a colorful and exciting yet healthy dish for your little ones.

Ingredients

A tip from Bananasaur: My personal favourite additional topping to this breakfast recipe are cherries (about 3 per serving) – just make sure to remove the pits! 

  • bananas 
  • 240ml low-fat yoghurt 
  • About 120g mixed berries fresh or frozen 
  • 4 tablespoon walnuts chopped 
  • 4 tablespoon rolled oats (try gluten-free oats to make it GF friendly!) 
  • Optional toppings: 1 tablespoon of cinnamon or honey

A tip from Bananasaur: Because this recipe is so easy, get your kids to help you make it! They could have heaps of fun mashing the berries, or choosing their own healthy toppings.

Method

  1. Slice the bananas in half lengthways. 
  1. Puree or mash mixed berries. 
  1. Place oats in each serving bowl. 
  1. Place two banana halves on top of oats (extra points for style!). 
  1. Top with yoghurt and walnuts, and/or any other toppings of your choice. 
  1. Drizzle over berry puree/mashed berries to serve.
